So thanks to everyone helping me out, this is my new rendition. I switched from i5 to X4 Quad, and from GTS 250 to HD5770. New case and other things. Let me know.

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HDX945WFGMBOX - Retail $151

GIGABYTE GA-770TA-UD3 AM3 AMD 770 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $95

HIS H577FM1GD Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail $160

Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3/2G - Retail- $62 ****I am including this because I already have two gigs.

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $99

Windows 7 64-bit- $104

Total= $673

My only question is if I am over doing it with the case. I could still go for the Antec 300 Illusion, or the COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 RC-590-KKN1-GP Black SECC / ABS. I am still not sure on that one.

good build.

the case is a preference thing more than anything else. if you like it, go for it. its not performance that needs to matter, just how much you like it. you'll probably be spending a whole lot of time in the same room as it, so if you dont like the way it looks, you'll have wasted a lot of money.

The pricing, including shipping and rebates for these last two cases are both 80 dollars. The Antec 900 with shipping is 110 dollars.

So is it worth the extra 30 dollars for the bigger case, or are either of the 80 dollar cases plenty good?

I guess I am wondering if the cooling aspect is going to be significant with the 900?

Oh, and also, is it worth waiting a month or more before buying?

As far as your RAM goes, consider DDR2800/1066 as an option with an DDR2-compatible AM2/AM3 Motherboard... Keep in mind that DDR3 is best ran with 3 sticks in trichannel mode, and that's an i7 thing. afaik, amd's still in the dual-channel game.

And as for the RAM, are the Kingston stick that you care going to buy, similar to the ones that you have ?

Yeah the Ram I am buying is the exact same as the one I already have.

I LOVE the Lian Li case. Holy cow. I just sort of ruled them out because of initial price estimates towards my total system. I forgot to go back and look at them. Thanks a ton.

I also like the 690.

^ Yeah bot the cases have the HDD cage facing sidewards, which makes it easy for HDD placement and also they would be able to accommodate even extra long cards like the HD 5870...

Yeah, man thanks a ton. My wife will love either of these two. I mean I love them both. My wife will love them you just strengthened our relationship!

So you solved one problem but created another.
My problem before was getting a good price for a roomy case with good airflow. Now I have a harder problem of deciding between these two awesome cases! What to do!!!

Yeah I noticed that. Also, they both have great fan placement and cable management!

@dkjravn Yes the DDR3 RAMs will be compatible with that AM3 board...

And as for the cases, why not toss a coin and decide ;)
But my vote will go to the Lian-Li though - I like side windows and the Straight lines design in the front and the top...

Heh, yeah I just put it all in the cart on newegg with the Lian-Li. Fortunately, the overall price even went down by the end of this thread! With tax, that is 56 dollars worth, the whole deal is only $725.50! That means 662 before tax! $10 cheaper!

Now, I am just wondering if I should wait another month or two. I heard that new gpus are to be launched during march and that prices may come down a bit on the 5770. Other than that I am set.

^ Yes...By March or April, Nvidia will also be launching their DirectX 11 parts...
Also ATI will be launching the HD 5830, that would be as powerful as the HD 4890 and will sport DirectX 11 and will cost ~$200-$230...
If you are not in a hurry, then you can wait before you purchase...

i doubt the 5770 will receive a price drop.

nvidia are only launching their ultra high end part(s) in march, it will likely take a couple of months for the lower end designs to appear (usually does). and since the high end cards are not competing with the 5770, its probably not going to receive a price drop.

you could be waiting a while, and in the tech business the next big thing is always right around the corner.

Ok. Well something to think about. I would like to just hit buy right now, but at the same time it is nerve racking! I think I will buy all the items that are on sale now and then wait as long as I can muster on the card. I have an HD2600XT in my old computer. A stupid Dell that I bought refurbished.

thats fair enough. when spending that much on a system its easy to worry about that stuff. i don't usually care though. if im willing to pay a certain amount for a product, and it gets dropped a few days later. well it doesn't matter, cause i still got it for a price i thought was fair. and with the constant price drops on PC tech it really is every day that things drop in price.

Now I just realized something. Today I went to Pottery barn with my wife. While there we enjoyed looking at lots of nice things. Then she bought two place settings with mother of pearl inlays all through the handles. I really really like these place settings. full five piece sets. Two forks, two spoons, and a knife. Now you might imagine that that would cost a fair amount. But would you imagine over 100 dollars for ten utensils? Well there you have it. 122 dollars. That is twelve dollars a piece! And they can't even go in the washer. But I really like them as well.
Anyway, the point of that story is this. If she can spend my money on things like that, then I can spend my money on things like this! I am buying it all!

well said.

surprisingly common i think. women criticize men for spending money on gadgets. but spend even more on entirely useless inanimate objects just because they look pretty.

women, what do we need them for eh? oh yeah... right...
