I5 VS i7 / Sandy VS Ivy, which one overclocks the best?

Out of the four processors, which one is the best overclocker?

i5 Sandy,
i5 Ivy
i7 Sandy
i7 Ivy.

SB, but you would get slightly less performance per clock. They probably use higher quality chips for i7's over i5's.

So, Sandy Bridge i7. Wouldn't be much difference between all of them though.

i7 Ivy, the multiplier is much higher than SB.

Can you even reach the max multiplier on the SB's and still have a reliable system?


The most I'll be doing is high end air cooling or possibly a simple water cooler. I won't be going with a phase change cooling system.

You can't really do any of that on regular cooling.

Most SB/IB hit 4.5ghz easily, then again anything above 4.5ghz would be a bit pointless.

So it sounds like it doesn't really matter what processor I go with than. Since I don't use any programs that use more than 4 threads I think I may go with an Ivy i5.

Does the i7 have any benefits other than hyper-threading?
