I own an AT&T USBConnect Mercury air card, and I would like to use it to create a wifi hotspot so that the kids and spouse can access the Internet from their respective devices during roadtrips. I know Cradlepoint makes such hotspot devices, but I'm not familiar with that brand. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding any particular devices? For power sources, I would like the device to be capable of battery operation and also be capable of being plugged into the car's "cigarette lighter" plug.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would recommend you look at the PHS300

http://www.cradlepoint.com/products/phs300-personal-wifi-hotspot-3g4g

it is battery powered, support the AT&T USBConnect Mercury, and has a auto adapter, which would be a perfect solution for you.

you can also look at the Tekkeon External Power Supply which will deliver 6+ hours of additional battery-power for the PHS300 (a fully charged CradlePoint battery will last 2+ hours with moderate use)

Let us know if you try this solution and how it works for you.
