Hi,

I just upgraded my GPU from a GTS 250 (lol) to a GTX 660, and was thinking of OCing my CPU too. It's currently running at stock 2.6Ghz, and I'd probably only OC to 3.6Ghz. I'm a total OC/hardware noob, and like to play it safe. I'm just wondering if it's even worth it for me to OC my cpu? I don't have too much spare time, and am nervous messing with stuff like that. Can anyone estimate what the gaming improvements from this OC would be?

Thanks!

you should get from 5 to 25 extra frames depending on a game and resolution
run benchmarks before and after oc to compare your improvements
dont overclock using the stock heatsink

You will get a few more FPS but, IMHO, you won't enjoy your games one bit more. It's just a giant pissing contest...and an expensive one at that.

It may help, it may not. It really depends on the game weather it's GPU heavy like BF3 or CPU heavy like Starcraft. In Say, Starcraft you may see some signifigant gains but beware: download something like HWMonitor to keep track of your temps, dont let them stay over about 63C while you are gaming. I reccomend getting an aftermarket CPU cooler.

you wont get a 30% oc anyway, most are doing good getting a 15-20% overclock, and its improvement in gaming will depend on the game, like previously said.
