Unable to create folder

Using XP Pro. There are times that the system freezes when I try to create a new folder within another, requiring control-alt-delete and deleting the task to clear the problem. Have tried to create folders within My Documents and within subsidiary directories, and the problem arose in all. Sometimes, rebooting clears up the problem but not always. Problem is recent, and have not added new software recently. AOL has been more flaky of late, but having it active/inactive seems to make no difference.

Back up all your data and test the hard drive with SeaTools for DOS. It may be a healthy drive but you need to test it to be sure:
