My HP Pavillion desktop won't recognise my new 300 gb WD raptor, I was told by the circus clowns at HP that my motherboard will not recognise a hdd that has a higher rpm than 5400, is there a way to get around this???

If plugging in the HD as a non bootable storage drive, go to Disk Management, format the drive and give the drive a drive letter.

WD SATA instalation guide.

EDIT list the system specs or HP model number. HP circus clowns are notorious for joking around when a formatting a hard drive request comes in.
