Hey guys.I play games like crysis,im about to buy mass effect 2.And a few other games.I play at 1024 by 768 mostly.sometimes 1200 by whatever.

I found a nvidia bfg geforce 280 gtx card for like,269 dollars, and i found a 4890 ati for 200. heres the links ,i dont plan on geting any sli or crossfire.i want 1 single card that does the job. Will 1 of these out perform 2 9800 gtx cards.

Which card is better.I just want to play i am not geting any sli or crossfire.I want 1 single powerful card.

Also what size power supply should i use for 1 of these cards.

And are these cards compared to 2 9800 gtx cards?

Dude, are you serious?
You game at 1024x768 and getting a $200+ card?

Buy it only, only if you are going to buy a bigger monitor with resolution 1920x1200

Just get a Radeon 4670 HD.
Will perform exceptionally at your resolution in every game (not sure about CRYSIS)

Get a 4670 for just $65-$70

Nah, don't go for 4670, it not good in the future...
Just get HD 5770, u can maxed out Mass Effect 2 with that card.

Reply to wa1

You can max out Mass Effect 2 at 2560x1600 with a 5770... but I agree it is likely his best bet.

I will upgrade my monitor eventially. i want 1 of these 2 cards no other card.Which card is better out of the 4890 and gtx 280.and do they out perform 2 9800 gtx cards.Thats all i want to know.I thank yall for the suggestions. But i want 1 of these cards for when i up my monitor.i will settle for nothing less.im tired of buying half assed cards that eventually cant run a game for crap.

I thank you guys really for your time.I probably should of told yall im buying a new monitor.

But its not about that its about which card out performs the other and if they compare to an sli 9800 gtx set of cards.I need to know this so i can buy imediately.and what size psu should i buy.

Reply to prototypex

A single 280 or a pair of 9800GTX's will be pretty close on performance and either will outperform a single 4890.

So you think i should go with the 280? mouse.I kept hearing from people that the 4890 was a beast of a card.Thats why i was puting it up there. Heres the thing what size power supply should i get mouse?.I got a nice pc its not bad at all. I got a 2.8 ghz amd 2 phenom 820 x4 quat processor,8gb of ddr3 memory.1 terabyte hd .but a 300 watt psu.im upgrading my power supply to like 850.Is 850 enough? for the card and my system

Reply to prototypex

First off, can you get a 280 or would it be a 285? and if so a Corsair 650 would be more than enough.

I don't quite understand most of the recommendations.

A 9800 GT provides 'Exceptional 1680x1050 performance in most games," according to:

http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 521-3.html

So one card is way more than you need, yet you have two of them.

A 4670 is two tiers down from a single 9800 GT, so it can't approach the performance of a single 9800 GT let alone two

A 5770 is just one tier up from a single 9800 GT so two of them should easily outperform the single 5770. If you are moving to 1920 resolution, the 5770 provides no future proofing as the 5770 can't do 30 fps @ HD resolutions in DX11

Look at this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 521-8.html

The following carsd are "comparable"

GTX 280, GTX 285 HD 4850 X2, HD 5850

and are one tier above the HD 4870, HD 4890 & HD 5770

Fpr PSU sizing, let this "do the math" for you

Thanx dude i see now theres a grid that shows you where they stand.Thanx man.So a 280 or a 285 will do the job.

It's 9800GTX's not GT's and a single 285 seems to do better than a single 4890 for the most part.

I'll point this out...

DO NOT GET A GOD DAMN GTX 280!!!

I'm not sure what is wrong with people here.

There are 2 options you have that make infinitely more sense to get almost the same or greater performance. Both the 4890 and GTX 275 come EXTREMELY close the the GTX 285 for FAR less money. The 5850 beats them all and is still far cheaper than the GTX 285.

As for Jack, you need to realize those charts aren't law and do not show how they get the tiers. A 4890 performs the same as a GTX 280 and a little below a GTX 275. See there are mistakes in there, don't go by them go by benchmarks and research.

If it's what the OP wants who are we to say otherwise?

He came here for advice, it is my right to advise him as he wishes. If he chooses to go against my advice then it is his decision, and subsequent loss.

If he wanted to buy a 3870 X2 for $600, should I not advise him otherwise? Or should I let him waste a lot of money because you don't feel that we have the right, even though he is here, on this forum that we share asking for OUR advice.

There, as you cans see OP, both the GTX 275 and the 4890 are extremely close, or beating, the GTX 280 all for less than the GTX 280.

As you do not know what the OP's circumstances are you have no way of knowing why they only have the three options that they asked advice on and to say otherwise is just arrogance on some sort of righteous crusade.

I would reccommend the 9800 gtx x2.

It's not the most powerful card out of the ones you are thinking to buy, but it is fairly priced and you will be able to play Crysis on Extreme Graphics with a good framerate (20 - 40 fps average)
