Cursor moves up and down but not left and right

Hello,
the cursor has stopped moving left to right, but will move up and down. any advice? I have a logitechUSB mouse and an HP pavilion ze2315 laptop. running Windows XP

Did you change anything with your setup at all around the same time this probably happened?

not a direct relationship, but have been having problems with ATI settings for displays.

I'd start by reinstalling the drivers for the mouse.

I'd also check to see if there are any conflicts in the device manager.

How do I access Device Manager?

I tired another mouse and it works fine.

I haven't used XP in a while to know exactly the steps to getting to it, but in win 7, I right click "My Computer" and select Device, then device manager is in the list to choose. You may find it in the control panel.

I found Device Manager and it does not show any problems. I am going to take the mouse to BestBuy and have them check it. I may just have to buy a new mouse.
