Then I found the reviews I had been looking for beforehand. Is this drive as bad as everyone says? What would be a similarly priced, more reliable alternative? Opticals are so standardized and since they don't affect performance, you should just get the cheapest SATA model you can find. r3z0nate July 12, 2011 8:01:42 PM Mine died after a year or so. Actually, the drive is recognized in Windows 7 and I can use eject to open the tray, but it stopped reading every type of disc. I deleted the registry entries which didn't help, and the FixIt program doesnt work unless it can find a disc in a drive. Can't find your answer ? Ask !
