Windows xp does not allow reinstallation

hello, i was trying to reinstall xp in my hp laptop and then after deleting the partitions and installing xp into drive c in the middle of the installation it says some file was missing and the installation could not continue, however ileft it and now when i try to start my computer it say ntldr missing however i got a new cd of windows xp and wqs trying to reinstall xp again but now it say prees any key to continue when i pres any key it does not do anything its like it freezes up and after a minute or two it becomes blank the scree thgough the laptop is still on and its not like the laptop is powerin off or anythin . its just blank can someone please help...

It might help if we knew what file was missing from the first install. Also, what model HP is it? And why are you reinstalling? Perhaps you have a hardware problem you need to fix before you can reinstall XP.
