I just downloaded MSI Afterburner for my laptop. My laptop is a new HP DV6 with an Intel i7 3610qm quad core processor, 16Gb Corsair Vengence DDR3 1866Mhz RAM, 256Gb Crucial m4 SSD, and a Nvidia GT650m graphics card with a 1920x1080p 15.6 inch screen. I did a test run with and without the MSI overclock using the game Borderlands 2 on MAX settings with every option ON and 16x antialiasing. I constantly fired my weapon and ran around wildly for 10 minutes while recording my FPS and temps.
The results are as follows...
Without MSI Afterburner - Core Clock-845Mhz / Memory Speed-2000Mhz / Avg. FPS-19 / MAX FPS-27 / MAX Temp 66C
With MSI Afterburner at MAX - Core Clock-970Mhz / Memory Speed-3000Mhz / Avg. FPS-23 / MAX FPS-34 / MAX Temp 68C
Not bad for a laptop playing a graphics intense game under a heavy load huh? The Afterburner gave me an increase of 15-18% or 4 FPS average. The temps only increased by 2C after 10 minutes of intense gaming at MAX overclock. Usually on Borderlands 2 I could tell the graphics were lacking a LITTLE(probably because of 1080p screen). Now it plays perfectly, even on MAX settings.
This is my first time overclocking so I wanted to share my experience because I learned this from Tom's Hardware. I am sure my FPS would be alot higher during normal gameplay. Post your before and afters too.
