More about 1055 help
  1. Based on reviews... I would say neither if for a strictly gaming build. You would be better off getting a Core i5 750 or Phenom II X4 955, as the performance will be equal but the system cost will be lower.

    Benchmark Results: Crysis
  2. hexacores are not for gamers, you can get a 965 125w for like $180, hexacores are for video editing rendering etc

the 5850 is the better all round choice the 470 might beat it in fps by a small margin, but when all the variables are taken into consideration, the 5850 wins
  3. 955 + 5850 = win.
  4. I would take the 5850, and a x2 555 or A X3 435
  5. Its fair to to say at this time that a pure gaming rig benefits little from the extra cores. However the extra cores don't hurt either. If your choice was the I7 930 or the X6 1055 I would say the X6. But I agree that the phenom X4 965 is the better choice IF this is a gaming rig exclusively.
  6. ^ the 930 is faster though, and 200$ at micrcwnter.
  7. The 930 is barely faster than the 1055, and you can get the 1055 for $150 at tigerdirect.

So long as that deal lasts, nothing comes close.

No it isn't. They are about the same. Less than 5% in a cross platform comparison is nothing

The i3 530 beats it in games.

  10. Since when was Crysis benchmark tool at 1280x1024 'games'?

Now, you want to talk about real gaming benchmarks? Try this. In what is known to be one of the best multi-threaded games, the X6 960T beats Gulftown while also being 20% faster than the i5 750 - supposedly the champion of intels gaming?

Are you people seriously trying to say that Thuban is a bad gaming cpu? Cuz if you are, it's time to look again, properly this time. :)

    Here ya go:

And I don't trust that bench, Waht site?

    And waht res build etc.
  12. Bad gaming cpu?

  13. some one say me that i5 is not good processor it is only good for overclocking
and at price of x4 i will get x6 1055 adding some little bugs
  14. i personally think that x6 will be future proof also
  15. There is little cost difference between the processors. I personally would go with an i7-920, which is cheaper than a 930 and can easily be overclocked to exceed the 930. Although you have six cores with phenom ii x6 and only four with i7s, the i7s use hyperthreading to allow eight threads, phenoms do not. In heavy rendering, last time i checked, the i7 came out on top. But if you are only gaming, then you could even get away with a higher end core 2 duo, since nearly no games or apps can even use more than two threads efficiently. Also consider that ATI and AMD have liknked up, meaning a phenom might play nicer with your ATI than an i7 would.

If price is the same get the i7, on almost all benchmarks it beats the 6 core CPUs and can overclock well enough.

At higher resolutions battlefield bad company 2 (and almost all games) has negligible difference in performs with CPUs and I'm sure if you got the i7 930 and overclocked it to 3.6ghz + it would stomp on any other cpu in terms gaming.

But ultimately I agree if all you want to do is game. Get an i3 and put your money towards a better graphic card like a 5870, you'll notice the difference more there.
  17. If you can get the i7, I would over the x6.

I had the Phenom 955 and just moved up to the Phenom X6 1055. I do mostly video editing. There is definitely a difference between the two processors but if I didn't get the 1055 for $125 (Tiger Direct $199 - $50 rebate - $25 Bing cashback), I would not have made the change since the performance difference isn't worth spending $200; the 955 is a very capable processor and I didn't even overclock it yet it worked very well for me.

The second link shows an x4 965 beating an i7 920 and an i7 980X… and you are saying that this proves i7 is king? Notice how close everything is? They are within 3 FPS the bottleneck is the gpu which mean no amount of overclocking will change the FPS drastically. So an i7 overclocked to 3.6ghz will do nothing in game.

The first link is odd. It shows the x6 1090 and x4 955 beating the i7 940 at lower resolution. Now isn’t lower resolution harder on the cpu and higher resolution is harder on the gpu?

My advice is to get a x4 955 and a HD 5850 or HD 5870 if you can afford it. If you want to be “future proof” go for the x6 but just like the i7 I don’t think it will make that much of a difference because your gpu will still be the bottleneck.

builder: You are still using the crysis review? I thought it was a well known fact that Intel always performs marginally better in crysis.
  20. Uh, I mostly only use Crysis for GPU comparsions.

Oh, I saw that you used it here twice and I have seen you use it in other forms as well…
  22. Yep .

i use it as my primary GPU benhc.

Not such a good CPU bench thou. (High grpahics load)
  23. all of those wisemen..Pro Llama advises makes sense.. i am going to build a gaming rig.. so help me with the specs.. i hate intel and nvidia..is it true tht mid range nvidia cards performs beeter than high end ati cards in batman:arkham asylum? why? i will b buyingsoon so plz help me.. many guys days that intel i5-750 betters amd x4 955 in terms of games.. is it true?
  24. Stick to AMD for this.

The P55 platform is a fail, it has only 16 lanes of PCIe, and is a dead socket.

And Batman was optimized for NV becuase of large bribes....

  26. you will need a bigger case, thats a full atx motherboard, also that gpu is not small atall, lastly, you will need a powerfull psu to push that gpu
