No display on monitor

Hi
I got a xfx 9800gt green edition .When i connect my monitor to the card I see a blank screen.I cant install the drivers when the card is not in the pcie slot .i connected it via dvi to vga connector.Why do I get a blank screen

My primary graphics controller is set to auto in the bios.

P.S I have a 915 gav motherboard .

I had a similar issue and it was not the rams, cpu or the video card. Some PSUs do not play well with certain brands.

Remember to try another power supply, my 850watt PSU was not certified to be used with my 5870, so I had to get another one and it worked
