HI! Ok, that's out of the way, I need opinions. I am looking to upgrade my storage needs. Before I give what I want to possibly buy, let me explain the situation. I am a PC gamer, play EVE, and overall do crazy things on the computer (according to others >.>). My desktop is the following:

AMD Phenom II 1055T @ 3.6 GHz
4 x 2 GB DDR3-1600 RAM
4 x 320 GB 7200 RPM Western Digital Scorpio in RAID 0
1 x 1 TB 7200 RPM Western Digital Black Edition
2 x ATi Radeon HD 5770

My server rack consists of a Dell PowerEdge 750 and 2850. The 750 is booted from network from the 2850 and has 2 x 1 TB drives in it, Windows Server 2008 Datacenter. The 2850 is a vSphere 4.1 running several services, 3 x 36 GB 10k rpm UltraSCSI 320. Setup works for now.

Recently lost what used to be my storage server, which was a 4 x 1 TB RAID 5 setup, AMD dual core, 4 GB RAM. Two of those drives are now on the 750. The data was backed up, so I didn't loose anything. Network is full gigabit.

What I need is an expandable file server to sit my FRAPS file and other data on with enough for 2 drives to die on without failing. Was thinking ZFS on possibly OpenSolaris or Ubuntu (more used to CentOS, whole different thread though).

I have 4U left in my rack and 80 x 2.5" SATA 320 GB (Western Digital WD3200BEKT) drives recently Looking to keep 4 to 8 over to replace any drives that go bad. I'm just looking for opinions or other solutions. My budget is as cheap as I can get it, but try to keep it under $1500.
