Going with 4870 wont be any different from the 4670 from a mobo perspective, all i see is your CPU perhaps getting bottlenecked, i think that answers your question??

What screen resolution do you play at? If its smaller than 1440x900 then a 4870 will be abit overkill and maybe even alittle bottlenecked by your CPU, if 1680x1050 resolution then it should be ok. You will also mostlikely need to upgrade your PSU to 450 watts. Also if you can overclock your CPU to maybe 3.0ghz that would improve performance of your 4870.

yes smaller than 1440x900,so how to provide that kind of high resolution?will i change my monitor or can be done by settings?

Monitor will only go up to its native resolution. it can go downwards from it, but not upwards. for that resolution, perhaps pick up a 4770 or a cheap 4850 while you can

You will need to buy a bigger monitor to take full advantage of both the higher resolution and the 4870.

What size is your monitor? (in inches)

Maybe a 5750 will be more suited to your system, what power supply do you have?

i have only 15 inch lcd monitor,so it means that buying a 4870card without changing my monitor has no improvements in my game performance?but my only reason for changing my card is to prevent lag while playing on high settings.so what is the best solution for that?

Dont see how your really lagging at all on a 15 inch with a 4670, your better off OCing your CPU a bit and see if that improves frame rates

If you want to upgrade your graphics card then you need a new PSU too.

I agree with Expr3ss overclocking your CPU will improve your framerates and maybe its something to try before throwing money at the problem
