ASUS 5850 Mixups?

HI all!
Been reading bits and pieces of a supposed mixup that ASUS is putting 5870 in 5850 boxes..
Not quite sure this is the case but, something is strange about my 5850. When I installed it, it was default at 850/1200. Also, after GPU-Z validation it has all the same fill rates and mem bandwidth as the 5870. the only thing that leads me to believe this is false is that the shaders is 1440. I though it was a little big as well. I have to crack case open and check the dimensions.

upon further examination this cannot be a 5870. Even though the length is bigger than the said dimensions of the 5850, the power plugs are located on the front of the card. The 5870 has them on the side. I just don't understand why my default speeds are 850/1200, and the bandwidth/fillrates match the 5870.
Anyone has any thoughts feel free!

your card got "flashed". They took the 5870 bios, whether accidentally or not, and installed it to your 5850. Keep in mind the bios controls your voltage core, clock speed ect. So your basically running a 5870 without the number of transisters, kudos.
