Should I make image before upgrading to Windows 7 with new hard drive?

Last response: in Windows XP

I'm confused on a number of fronts :pt1cable:  I'm going to upgrade the hard drive in my old laptop which is currently running xp, and also install Windows 7.

I assume the first move is to install Windows 7 on the new drive. Should I then make an image of my old xp drive or will that be useless to the new W7?

Thanks in advance and apologies if this is not the right forum or the topic has been covered elsewhere.

Backup important data and do a clean install of 7.

Just make sure all the drivers are available for your installation of 7.
