AMD OverDrive help!

When I start AMD OverDrive and I go to the clock/voltage tab and I raise the clock tab multiplier to get my cpu going up it shows me the target of what I'm hitting but when I click apply the tabs reset back to normal and nothing happens. Please help and if there's some sort of obvious answer to this question please don't treat me like a dumbshit like on the other forums I'm new to overclocking I just know the mhz and ghz and how far not to go and easy stuff like that not like bus speed and all that hard stuff.

More about : amd overdrive

1st. What is your processor?

If you don't have a black edition you can't overclock using that software

2nd. You really should be using the bios to overclock your cpu. It's much more safe.

If you click more information on my it would say my specs but anyway I'm using AMD Vision A8-4500m 2.80ghz quad core 4mb L2 cache and it seems that this is compatible with my computer because it has no errors on startup. And bios overclocking isn't compatible with my laptop.

The BIOS is where the settings get changed, even if you are doing it through a software program. Looks like your laptop does not have any OCing capabilities, which is pretty par for a laptop, they are meant to stretch their limited cooling to near max as it is.

And we like convenience here, much easier to see your specs in your post than having to follow links all over the place, we like our info nice and central.

try k10. its a software to control ur cpu. i pushed my A8 from 1.5 to 2.0 and my boost from 2.4 to 2.8 with it being stable.

defaults state and voltages for my A8-3500
2400 1.3375
1500 1.0750
1400 1.0375
1200 1.0125
1100 0.9875
1000 0.9750
900 0.9625
800 0.9500

My Overclock with K10stat
2733 1.175
2000 0.9625
1750 0.925
1550 0.875
1333 0.825
1100 0.775
875 0.7125
650 0.6625

All my overclock voltages are .0250 volts higher then when I experienced system issues at. notice that my voltages are lower. apparently amd set the voltages to high for safety. I did this while setting a goal of thermal less then 70C. I was actually able to run nomral at 2.5ghz with boost of 3.0 ghz at 85c stable but decided that temp was a little to high for cpu life. CPU thermal cut off is 105C but way to high for me to dare get to. The way I recommend is to lock cpu freq to one of the states ( so its not moving to the different states). then id lower the voltage while running load test. droping .0125v every 30 sec till it crashed. then reboot and take that voltage back up by .0250 volts and let the benchmark run for awhile keeping eye on Temps. once i found the minimal voltages for all the states. From there i took my highest state and moved the voltage back to its defult and slowly pushed the freq up till i found my max stable freq without overvoltage. Then of course i backed the voltage and freq off till i stayed under my thermal limited i decided.

HPDv6 with 35 watt thermal limit.

You probably have a way different cpu because k10stat doesn't support trinity cpu...

i have a question, i have the same amd vision a8-4500m quad core but mine says 1.9 GHz. do you know why? mine sometimes runs at 2.3 GHz but never 2.80.

is there two different editions of this APU?

The m at the end of the model number signifies that it's a mobile part. This means that you will find many different clock speeds based on what the OEM ordered.

roger that. being that its a mobile part, does it still have turbo core 3.0? am i able to overclock it?

It does have turbo core but you most likely won't be able to overclock. Unless it's a gaming laptop.
