My 5970 keeps crashing my whole machine

This is really crappy..

I turn everything down to nothing in the game and the CCC and turn the fan up to like 70% and the card stays at like 45C but it doesn't matter my machine just keeps crashing. There is a lot of stuff going on in the game, but my 4870 can handle it no problem yet my 5970 just locks up the whole machine..

Is my card broke or are the drivers broke? What should I do?

Is it a BSOD or just a normal crash? It may be your power supply, so posting your PSU specs here would be helpful.

850W corsair PSU

I'm using 10.1 CCC and 8.69 drivers.. looks like they recommend 8.66HemlockBeta5 drivers.. might try those I guess.

It's a full out system lockup.. have to hard reboot.

Maybe it is my PSU though because when I run this game and nothing is going on if i keep the fan on everything works fine for a long time.. but all of a sudden it's flipping out because lots of stuff is going on..

As in way more things are on the screen

Pretty much rules out the PSU as it is a good unit. Try the drivers and see what happens.

Is your CPU & RAM overclocked? Or are you running on stock speeds?

It would be better if you would list down your specs.

Sorry yes my cpu is overclocked

I7 920 OC'd to 3.6ghz cooled with i forget the brand cooler.. but it was highly regarded
6gb 1333 ram
2 sata drives
1 dvd rw
corsair psu 850w

Edit.. Nevermind found it. Going to try 9.11 drivers I guess.. Doesn't really explain the full system lockup.. but I guess the driver could cause that

well with 9.12 drivers i have a whole new set of problems.. my drivers crash out of no where when I'm just on my desktop and the desktop pixelates and i can't do anything but hard reset.

I never had that problem with the 10.1 drivers..

grr...

soo what do y'all think.. faulty card or just driver issue? Anyone have a 5970 and not have any issues with it? Any trick to setting it up?
