Customise option greyed out

thysearch has taken over my internet home page and the tools option is greyed out. system is widows xp. need detailed instructions on how to fix this, and prevent it from happening again. many thanks, warren

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Try Control Panel>Internet Options to go to thhe same place that the Tools menu would take you. If that option is also unavaliable to you, go to http://www.trendmicro.com and download HijackThis.

Install it and click to scan and save a log. Do nothing further until you've posted that log back here and someone advises you on what to delete.

Have you run your anti-virus since this happened?
