Xp partition not recognized

Hello,
PC booted with "missing hal.dll" and when tried restore from original XP disc the restore function reports that the main partition containing all of my files is "unknown" and restore won't allow expanding/restoring hal.dll because the partition is unknown. What do I do?

You need to perform a full reinstall, and I hope your files are backed up. . .
