How to fix a usb mass storage device problem

Hi,

I have a thumb drive or portable memory that is about a year old. It has some training documents, component data sheets and presentations on it that I have done for work over this past year. The other day I put it in one of the usb ports in my computer and it asked me to format. If I do that I will loose all the data. It will not give me an option to open the storage device.

You have probably already lost the files because the drive has became corrupt. You have a backup copy of these important files, right?

You can try to run chkdsk from a command prompt, but if Windows will not even assign it a drive letter you are done.
