Hello,
I partitioned my WD passport essential to use on my Mac, and I seem to have cleared all data from it including the installation guides?
How do i restore the external to its original state so that i can back up my files?

These are two free software programs that will recover lost are deleted files. The good news is that your data is still there and will be untill you write over the blocks that hqad data on them. When you format or repartition all you are doing is making the drive available to be written on and the files are not erased unless you use a special program that will erase files.

You may try WD passport data recovery solution, see this one that helped me before: WD hard drive file recovery

You may also download this data recovery tool. You'd better stop using the WD hard drive, connect it to a windows computer and recover lost files.
