Well, I see you move the mouse left or right until a cylinder starts
shaking. Then what? Is there a procedure to speed this up, as it seems
like luck that I finally get it open after 5 minutes :)

You don't need to use the mouse unless the lock has like 7 rings or something.
Just use the WASD keys or whatever you have bound to movement, They will
move the pick to 12,3,6,or 9 o'clock, and if the sound changes and/or the
ring starts to get a gap in it then just click the left mouse button, and it
will move you on to the next ring.

use the wasd keys as the other guy says but if you do
use the mouse keep the lock picks 'flat' by moving the mouse in a wide
circle and when you hit the sweet spot press the left mouse button to speed
up the tumblers. its a little tricky to get the hang of but once you
understand it picking locks is easy and fast.

Very easy, actually. Simply move the mouse around until Garrett's right hand to pivot up at a 45-degree right angle (-/) and hold it there. You don't even need to look at the lockpick HUD (which I've disabled).
