I'm planning a new machine from the ground up.
This computer will be used for basic everyday use, browsing internet, MS Office, music, online video, and DVDs.
Also, it will also store all my music, video, photos....so i figure I need a decent size hard drive.
Also within a few month, I plan to get into some photo and video editing....
So far...this is what the plan is...
- processor - Core i7 860.
- motherboard - Asus P7P55D-E PRO
For the Video card, I'm open to suggestions.....I've read on the forum of the ATI 5750 or Nvidia 250. I've also heard of the Nvidia 260.
Does anyone have experience with these?
I would need HDMI out, since I'm planning on using HDTV as the monitor. And if it has HDMI, does the video card have sound through the HDMI? or will I need to run that separately to the TV?
Is there another video card, that I should consider?
Based on the motherboard and processor I'm planning on getting....do you see any problems or concerns?
Sound like a good enough reason...Thanks!
I just took a look online to price shop....but I can't find a card that just "ATI Radeon HD 5770"....
I'm seeing various brands attached to the name...for example
Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770
Diamond ATI Radeon HD 5770
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770
Saphire ATI Radeon HD 5770
Best Data ATI Radeon HD 5770
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5770
Are these the same as what you were recommending?
Does it make a difference which I get?
I have a gtx 260 and yes, it is a little bit faster, and just like the 5770 you can get audio thru the HDMI adapter.
I personally think Nvidia is a little better because of the drivers, i read in newegg a lot of reviews of the 5770 that had a common problem.... drivers.... so yeah. that is just my personal oppinion.
I appreciate all the help. I think I'm going to go with an XFX 5770 card....their warranty is a bit more tempting...
One last question...(i think)....i looked up the XFX card on newegg....and i ended up finding 4 versions of it...
i know the difference in some are the fact that some have the non-reference egg shaped heatsink....but newegg seems like they have 2 with the standard heatsink and 2 with the eggshaped heatsink....all 4 are 1GB DDR5 memory 5770 ATI cards.....
Whats the difference? The price for each are also not, the same...
I don't mind paying a few extra bucks to get a better quality version, but I so far I can't tell if any of these are better than the rest
The only real difference is the cooling ability of the cards as well as #3 being factory overclocked. #4 will vent heat directly outside of your case while #2 has a better fan but will circulate heat back into your case. Hardly a difference depending on your case's cooling abilities, vents and fans.
I've read a few threads from people who have the Asus mobo I'm planning on getting and a 5770 card. Some are having problems with their video (no video, bad video, etc.)
Does anyone have experience with dealing with ATI and also XFX when it comes to resolving issues? Are these vendors responsive to issues?
I know XFX gives the lifetime warranty for defective parts, but I'm more concerned with known issues with the cards since that won't be resolved by getting a new part...
