1st build, am I missing anything?

Hi Guys,
I'm taking a stab at my first computer build. Can you take a look at my list and see if I missing anything, or if there are better parts for the same price. I already have some hard drives and DVD burners and I'm going to get a Scythe Mugen 2 rev. B from Amazon for $47. I plan to O.C. a little and will use the machine for encoding and gaming. $1300 is all I would like to spend.

More about build missing anything
  1. if you went with an AMD build you could get the 5870 or even the 5970 in that budget.

Your case and PSU are both bad choices.

Try going with the HAF 922 and power supplies made by antec, corsair, seasonic, ocz, pc power and cooling.
  2. I need the computer for encoding video, which is why I went with the i7 vs AMD. I also went with the X58 over the P55 so I could take advantage of 6 core encoding in the future.
  3. Get rid of the crappy Raidmax PSU. For the same price you can get a Corsair 550 VX. Unless you are going to crossfire that is plenty if you do plan to crossfire in the future get the Corsair 750TX.

I myself like Gigabyte or Asus motherboards especially the Gigabyte UD series ( example Gigabyte EX 58 UDxx ).

    Good luck!
  4. Thank you, that's the kind of help I'm looking for. I dropped that combo into my cart and removed the raidmax psu and HIS 5850, the total came out the same.
  5. Already got rid of the PSU, thanks to Whitefang. That Asus board is nice, but its about $170 more than the Foxconn after rebate.
  6. I would still go with my PSU / GPU combo but just to let you know jacknaylorpe.

You can get this combo which is cheaper and better.
