This is my first build, I'm doing it with a friend thats a computer GURU, problem is, he has a bottomless pit of money. He put together a computer, but it was more then I was originally going to spend. So I went ahead and tweaked it. I'll post both so you guys can tell me what I should go with.

My main use of the system would be: CAD design software, Internet, Gaming, movies.

Please feel free to make any changes. Both computers are in my range, but at either end. 1300-1600.

These machines where put together through the newegg site, which I prefer to use.

1. For an i7 CPU and a monitor that size, a 5770 is actually going to be a drag on the system. I'd recommend at least a 5850.

2. On the first one: Rosewill power supplies used to have a reputation for being a POS. Don't know if they've gotten better, but I would still avoid.

2a. On the second one, you'll probably want more than 500W to go with your new 5800 series video card

3. On the second one, yes, 4GB of RAM is plenty for most purposes ... but since it's only an extra $20, it's worth getting 4GB of DDR3-2000 instead of DDR3-1333.
(edit: Just noticed CAD/graphic editing as a priority -- in which case, if you're working on large projects, more RAM helps).

4. Do you really NEED a motherboard that costs $200? e.g. are you planning on upgrading the CPU to an i9 or higher in the future, which is what you would need a socket 1366 board for, or are you planning on crossfiring? If no to both, you can probably make do with a 1156 board for half the price. Also, you may want to investigate getting a motherboard with USB 3.0 support. You'll be glad a couple years from now.

5. For 7200 RPM hard drives, I believe the Samsung Spinpoint is the one everyone raves about, and is actually slightly cheaper than the one you picked. The Seagate Barracuda also comes pretty well recommended.

power supply - go with either corsair, ocz, or thermaltake!!

CPU- budget computers should go with amd, games are not usually cpu dependent, with the money you save by going amd you could get an HD5870 instead of a 5770!!!

Ram- Check this ram out they are great!!!
