What happened to the Radeon HD 5970's out there?

What happened to all the HIS/XFX Radeon HD 5970's supplies out there costing $699 and below? It appears that everyone is advertising them, but no one has them in stock. This all happened as I was receiving the parts for my new build using the i7-920 & my Gigabyte X58A-UD5 Mobo from the last week of Jan/2010 to present.
