This is quite simple enough question. But it is difficult to just answer without probing "for what" are you comparing them?
Do you mean laptop or desktop?
While you may get answer to your question, it will be better if you will ask more specific question.
I know Dell gives out an actual OS disk instead of just a restore partition. For me, this is a big deal if your going to buy an oem machine.
Of course, I will never buy an oem machine again. Home brew is so much better quality.
I highly agree. After being able to build my own PC I do not trust any OEM company to build it for me. Why pay them a premium for unbalanced & inflexible platform?
Most OEM company will put in a powerful CPU with a limping video card and an Intel motherboard that have no possibility to tweak the BIOS. Don't fall into this trap.
I am looking to buy a reliable desktop for everyday use
If you are looking for a laptop, I would probably recommend one of the two. But since you are buying a desktop, then I suggest to just built it yourself. This same forum can help you to pick components that will be best suited for your need. Just tell us what you want to use the PC for, how much is your budget and whatever parts you already have and don't need to buy anymore.
