For your budget, you would get a bit more out of and AMD build, which I am sure someone else will post, but you did ask for an Intel build, so here goes (do not buy that combo you have listed, it is building on LGA775)

Option 1 with USB3 and SATA 6 support

    Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail - 195

    ASUS P7P55D-E LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - 160

    or

Option 2 with SLI and Crossfire support

    Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail + ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - 350 (including mail-in rebate)

    CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 - Retail - 115

    SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - 55

Cases are a personal choice, here are two that would serve you well

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - 55

LIAN LI Lancool PC-K58 Black CECC Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - 70

If you are considering a new more efficient PSU as well, something like this would work out well

Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail + Antec EarthWatts EA650 - 125

For a monitor I suggest you go browsing the local computer shops and find one you like, possibly check it out in the shop for dead pixels and backlight bleeding.

If your old CD/DVD drive is IDE buy a new SATA drive (~$20) to make cable routing easier and improve air flow in the case.
  2. Thanks for the quick response " Lothdk"..I appreciate your efforts for the links

Also I dont mind getting suggestions for the AMD build as you said it may work out well..Its just that i don't know enough about the AMD processors out there for this range and I am confused with them..

If it is definitely going to change the performance a lot by using an AMD build for this budget(with upgradability options) I am up for it.

Also I want to know if the 16 MB cache on the SAMSUNG spinpoint is good enough for smooth gaming??

    Suggestion welcome

    cheers
