Hi everyone,
Doesnt the 250gts have one pci-e power connector? Mine has two. It works perfect. I know that the 250gts is a rebranded 9800gt. This was a really cheap card, cause I was on a really tight budget. The clocks are set to the normal 250gts settings, temperatures are the same as other cards from other brands. But the 9800gt or 9800gtx or what ever you call it, has 1 power connector right? Mine has two also, but it's a 250gts.

I didnt buy it from newegg. I bought it from a store where many people go, and it's a good store.

It's a Palit 250gts 512 mb DDR3.

I guess this is a cheaper version of the 250gts?

And by the way, on the price list, this Palit 250gts 512 md ddr3 is the same price as the Palit 9800gt 512 mb

The GTS250 is a 9800GTX. This is different from the 9800GT. 9800GT has 112 shaders while the 9800GTX/GTS250 has the full 128. The 9800GT has either one or no PCIe connectors, while the 9800GTX can have one or two. (depending on model) I had thought the GTS used only one. I also thought they shipped with 1GB and not 512MBs of ram. It seems you got the worst of both worlds, 512MBs of ram and two plugs needed. Not a huge worry, you just have a card thats a 9800GTX in nearly every way.

ok...thanks...i know i may have the worst of both worlds...........lol.....thank you. Whats the difference in performance between 9800gt, 9800gtx, and the 250gtx?
And how can the 9800 have no pcie connector, arent those the power supply cables?

I think I have the same card. Mine is a 9800GTX+ / 512 mem / two six pin power connectors. I think that it and the GTS250 are both die shrunk (to 55nm) 9800GTX's (basically, 8800GT architecture taken to its limit)

I believe the only differences are that they have a single power connector on the newest models, and you can get them with 1G of mem.

Feel free to correct me, anyone. I won't feel bad about not being able to keep up with nVidia's flakey upgrade / rebranding schemes. ;)

9800GT = 112SP and lowest clock speeds.
9800GTX = 128SP, and higher clock speeds.
GTS 250 = 128SP and highest clock speeds.

They are all based on the same chip, G92. To get the higher clock speeds there is a die shrink in there somewhere, not sure when it happened. I believe the same die shrink is what allowed the 9800GT to lose its PCIe power plug.

oh ok...cool...so performance wise there is barely any difference or there is a significant difference?

Assuming you mean difference between the chips, that depends. If your gaming below 1680x1050, I doubt you'd feel much difference between all three for most games. Some games like crysis you'll be able to tell which one is the 9800GT. The 9800GTX and the GTS250 should behave nearly the same.

If your gaming at 1080, 1200, or higher, the 9800GT should be pretty obvious.

pretty obvious as in worse i assume, so in high definition (1080) 250gts does better than the 9800gt and 9800gtx?

just for the fun of it, what graphics card do you have?

This chart shows the relative performance of the 9800GTX and GTS 250(and 9800GT)
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_5770/30.html
It is missing the 9800GTX+ as well as the 8800 GTS 512mb which are also essentially the same card as your GTS 250.

so in high definition (1080)

Depends what you mean by that. In 1080 gaming yes. The GTS250 with its more sp/higher clocks will turn in better frame rates then the 9800GT/9800GTX. If you mean 1080 video watching no. All cards will provide the same picture quality, so the 9800GT would be best due to lower heat/power needs.

Not that it matter, but an 8800GS. I only play one game, TF2. This card and my E6600 allows me to max this game out on details, and provide 2AA. This is enough for me at my monitors resolution of 1680x1050. If I put this game down for some reason and pick up something more demanding, then I'll get another card. D3 might do it, its the only thing coming I'm even remotely interested in.

Drats, and I liked my 8800GS. I can't remember, what did I buy?

Wait, I know (is supposed to) comes out March 26. Your not saying I'd buy one of "those" are you? I meant when a game that I want to play comes out that needs more then an 8800GS I'll buy a new video card.

Watch me. I've never bought a card over $300. Not about to start now. Unless Nvidia pulls a golden "egg" out of their seemingly clogged toilet, I doubt it.
