Suggestion for I7-950 memory
nham
I am wondering which of these would be better to get for an I7-950:
G.Skill
or
Mushkin
I am still trying to decide on a motherboard but leaning toward the Asus Rampage III Formula. Please let me know what you guys think is a better module. I think I remember reading somewhere that Intel benefits from lower voltage but the mushkin has better timings. They are both the same price so which one would you guys get? Thanks for the help.

Welcome Newcomer!
You first need to decide: 1. What MOBO, and 2. What OC. The Asus Rampage III Formula is an extreme OC MOBO and unless you want or are planning on OC >4GHz then you are wasting your money. The Asus Rampage III Formula needs 1800 or 2000 MHz DDR to perform well. In addition, you 'should' think about water cooling. The RAM gets expensive, and similarly so does everything else... Also, that MOBO is designed for 2/3-WAY SLI/CF.
So what I am trying to say is RAM can be fickle - and one set doesn't necessarily work from one MOBO to another. Best Practice is to look for Certified or Tested RAM for {each} MOBO.
My favorite RAM brands in order: {Corsair, G.SKILL, Mushkin, and Kingston}. -
Well, one of the main reasons I was looking at the Formula was because if I do decide to SLI/CF in the future I really like how the cards are spaced in slots 1 and 3. Plus it has gotten great reviews. I defiantly want to overclock 4.0+ I am not going to be watercooling I'll either be getting the Noctua NH-D14 or the Silver Arrow. Pretty positive either of these kits will work on the board just want some advice which would be a better choice for an Intel build.

Simple water system, easy as ANY CPU Fan to install - Corsair H70 - http://www.corsair.com/products/h70/default.aspx
Certified RAM {Asus Rampage III Formula} - {site is down/search - use QVL list}
Corsair Tested - http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=1493037
For the money the {TR3X6G1600C8D} is the best.
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit TR3X6G1600C8D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224&Tpk=TR3X6G1600C8D -
sentry1 said:@Jaquith: Would you say the Corsair Dominator C8 (8-8-8-24) is superior to the Kingston HyperX Blu (9-9-9-27)?
I ask because those are my two options from CyberpowerPC (DDR3-1600, 3 x 2GB sticks).
The CAS on the Corsair is faster - most important reason is the Corsairs are trouble free and OC extremely well. Good Luck!
