Been reading a lot on this forum lately and posted a few threads. I am finally down to this question, which route should I take?

First of, I am not a gamer, no crossfire/SLi. Possible over-clocking in the future.

This desktop is mainly for:

-web surfing
-photoshop lightroom
-downloading hi-def movie from my camcorder to the pc and maybe do light editing/conversion
-microsoft office

I am currently using a 2.1G Dell PC. What I am looking for is a stable setup, fast response (especially if I am running lightroom and surfing at the same time) and something that will last me at least 3 years.

setup #1
x4 955 - $161.00

GA-770TA-UD3 - $93.00

G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 - $115.00

Samsung HD $90.00

HD5770 $160.00

Antec case & 500W PSU $120.00

Sony DVD $24.00

win 7 premium 64 $105.00

Total $868

i7-920 $215.00 microcenter
EVGA x58 Sli $215.00 microcenter
HAF 932 $140.00 microcenter
Samsung 1TB HDD $90.00

Corsair 750W $100.00

OCZ 6G DRR3 1600 $140.00

Sony DVD $24.00

win 7 premium 64 $105.00

Scythe MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 $42.55

Sapphire HD 5770 $160.00

Total $1231.55

I am ok with setup #1 in terms of the total cost. But I was wondering if it is less than $400 difference, should I swing for the i7-920 setup? Will the i7-920 be an overkill for what I am looking for?

I also welcome any input to tweak the above to meet my needs. Thanks!

well the i7 920 is at high end of your uses but consider the i5 its a good midrange setup thats close the the 920 the 965 is the bottom range of the budget

all will perform well for your uses but its just a matter of how much you wanna spend
