Budget $1500 - What do you think? Any suggestions?

BUDGET RANGE: $1500 After Rebates
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Games, Internet, Microsoft Office, and some Photoshop

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS I can get Windows 7 Student Version for $80 or so. Do I NEED Professional or Home edition? (OS is excluded from the price range above.)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Which ever has the cheapest part. I am trying to avoid Newegg because I am a california resident.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1440x900 but I am planning to purchase a new one in 2/3 months.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I have never built any computer before. Most likely a friend with some experience will help me out with this installation. Do I need any other screws, cables, jacks, etc? In few months I will put in another HD 5870 and as mentioned above a new screen. Other than these upgrades I do not want to build a new machine for few years.

Here is what I have gathered lurking around here for last 2/3 months

ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM $308.98 amazon

Intel Core i7 2.66 GHz Processor $217.49 Microcenter

XFX Radeon HD 5870 $404.99 amazon

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB $54.99 zipzoomfly - after mail-in rebate

Corsair CMPSU-750 $109.99 amazon

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus $29.63 amazon

ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 $8.99 amazon

Total $1,504.96

  1. Thank you very much in advance.

  2. Looks like a very nice build

I would only say to look into a seagate 7200.12 500 or a Samsung F3 500 HDD there faster then the WD

    might pick up a

other then that you should be set
  3. Man, everyone scares me about reliability of other brands beside WD.

If you don't want to make changes, just use the WD then in 6 to 8 months see where SSD are at and buy one for your OS and programs and use the WD for storage :)
  5. SSD is a very interesting idea. I will do that. Thanks.

At the same time, I respect your suggestion about Samsung and Seagate. I do not mind changing from WD to either one of these. I already know that you prefer these from your other posts. Do you think I should go for Samsung or Seagate?
  6. cannot give you anything better for your price range looks good +1 to niklas about the ssd though
  7. Samsung F3 but ATM there hard to find
  8. So, it is coming together pretty good. I got all the parts as listed above. On HD I took your advice and purchased Samsung Spinpoiont F3.

Today we, me and a somewhat experienced friend, installed all the parts and got it running. It took fricking 5 hours. We will install the OS day after tomorrow.

Anyways, I am not so sure about cable management. I am trying to run as many cables as I can through the back plate but I do not know it still does not look very good. Any advice?

Second we forgot to put in the Q-Shield. I really do not want to take off everything and unscrew the motherboard then put this stupid little thing. Any advice on this?

Thank you very much in advance.

  10. cable management is not my strong point :) as you can see by mine

As far as the mobo plate i install mine when getting the case ready.

I would just remove the mobo and pop it in
