HTTPS Image Problem

Last response: in Windows XP
October 24, 2012 11:07:57 PM

My PC running WinXP won't display images on webpages that use the https protocol.

I've tried another PC running Win7 on my network and the images appear so the problem is particular to my XP machine.

I've tried clearing browser cache, deleting temp internet files but the problem occurs in IE and Firefox, so it seems it is not a browser issue.

I've tried deleting all temporary system files on my machine, using Google's DNS servers, disabling my AV software, and Firewall, rebooting machine to no avail.

It makes no sense for the problem to appear in different browsers but not on different machines on my network.

I have no idea, any suggestions?

You might have picked up a poorly written virus that is packaged as a layered service provider (LSP). The LSP was one of Microsoft's worst ideas, because an LSP has access to ALL information passing through your network driver, and they are allowed to snoop in on and even change the data. LSP issues will effect ALL browsers you have installed.

Thanks for the reply.

I had already run a scan with Super Anti-spyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and I did find some infections which were removed. So it's a little concerning that something might remian on my system.

I forgot to mention, if I brwoser via a proxy I can see the mmissing images.

Any other suggestions, I might try Combofix.
