I experienced an error, using that link, just now ...

anandtech has a great benchmark database benchmark tool that let's you choose any two cpus and lets you choose any one of the many std. benchmarks to compare the two cpus by. Ya gotta love THAT.

Yeah, that's the tool I was talking about. Looks like a pretty tight race, to me.

Not really. You have to check every benchmark. On about half of them, a lower time/score is better. The 965 is no slouch, but it can't really compete with the 870. Of course it shouldn't be expected to since the i7 870 costs well over twice as much. The good thing about the AMD chips is the price/performance, not raw processing power.

I count 3 wins and 1 tie for the 965 out of a total of 42 benchmarks.

Additionally, sometimes, the chosen scale for charting graphics can distort the proportionality of the comparison. Not so much in any Anandtech depictions, but globally, I always try to decipher the objectivity of any chosen vertical or horizontal chart scaling.

Perhaps "also in cpus" ... Certainly a new build consideration ... specially for gamers in the AM3/1156 arena !
