Hello,
can i replace my old sata hard drive in my hp dv7 laptop with one that has more gigabytes or will it over load my mother board

Yes you can the size of the drive will not matter for the load on the computer!

ok so i have a copy of my dv7 disk that i made when i bought the computer has windows vista on it can i use that on new hard drive or will i have to buy another windows cd

You can use your original since it is the same computer.

it is just a copy that i did when bought the computer you know hp tells you to make copy of cd's in case any thing goes wrong so i can use them on a new hard drive

Yes exactly the reason they suggested making it! The OS is licensed to the computer/motherboard so using it on the new HDD is within the license agreement!
