New Windows 7 System freezing randomly

I recently built a new computer with Windows 7. Shortly after finishing installing the OS, it started to freeze. After restarting I found it would freeze almost randomly, either playing a game or watching a youtube video would cause it. One time it happened when I was just deleting files. By 'Freeze' I mean everything becomes unresponsive, mouse and keyboard will not work and the screen basically becomes a picture viewer. Sometimes it will reboot on it's own, but more often than not it seems to hang indefinitely until I reset it.

Here are the Specs:
1 x Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750 - Retail
1 x CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail
1 x SAMSUNG 24x DVD Burner - Bulk SATA Model SH-S243N/BEBE LightScribe Support - OEM
1 x G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ - Retail
1 x GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
1 x Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
1 x Windows 7 64-bit
The Graphics card is a 2 or 3 year old Geforce 8800 GTS 512 from my old computer.

I ordered the parts separately and put them together myself, my first time doing so. I have updated the BIOS and all drivers and the problem persists; I'm almost sure the problem is the hardware but the problem is I don't know what piece of hardware since it is all new.

I need help and guidance on where to start; could it be RAM? the HDD? Motherboard? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

I would lookup the ram voltage and then check your bios to make sure it is set correctly, then run memtest overnight.
