Well, I just sold my 100mm f/2.8 macro lens on ebay. I bundled it with hood,
case and the final price is in line with the retail price of the new lens
only. I am sorry to see it go but I don't use it enough to justify it. I am
getting a 70-200 f/4 instead. Good luck in finding any good deals on any
Canon lenses.

The 50mm f/1.8 is plenty fast (speaking of aperture here). It is very good
wide open. You can get them for $70-80 new.
