  1. 1. Consider a mobo with USB 3.0 and SATA III.

    2. If you plan on overclocking, get RAM running 1600MHz.

    3. Get this Samsung HDD instead of the WD. It uses 500GB platters, so it's faster and runs cooler and more efficiently. I don't know who's still recommending WD drives ATM. :pfff:

    Otherwise, good build.
  2. thanks blackjello i updated the wishlist and also filled out the proper "asking format"

let me know if you can think of anything else..

also.. this will be my first build ever so... i dont wanna miss something.
  3. looking good. Looks like you did a lot of thinking before posting...
  4. my old pc died yesterday and i had nothing but time on my hands reading and researching..

also.. the mega comes with thermal paste right? on newegg the pic looks like it does but other places didnt show this.
  5. Better RAM

It may come with its own brand of thermal paster but I would use Artic Silver.....or at least order some just in case.

Since money does not seem to be an issue you would do better with 1 hard drive for storage and a SSD for your C: drive.
  6. ocz freeze is better the acrtic silver
  7. Case / PSu - This combo is $50 cheaper, cases are equivalent (each with their own pluses and minuses) but the CP-850 is a superior PSU both electrically and acoustically.

    Memory CAS 9 for $165 ? I'd do CAS 7 for $25 more or if it's a budget killer, CAS 8 is only $140

Hard Drives - Check out the performance charts and pick whatever 500 GB per platter drive performs best under your usage patterns. The 2 TB WD Black and LX from Seagate are good choices but at smaller capacities, you are limited to the Seagate 7200.12 or the Spinpoint F3. The 7200.12 excels in gaming, multimedia and pictures whereas the F3 wins at music and movie maker. See the comparisons here (copy past link in manually, link won't work in forum):

Monitor - Only 1680 x 1050 ? This is full HD screen but jump on it as they don't stay in stock long. (outta stock) (one left in stock)

Would recommend against AS5 dues to its 200 hour curing time which amounts to about a year of normal use according to
    Important Reminder:
Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5's conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink or with a low speed fan on the heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop 2C to 5C over this "break-in" period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is complete, the computer can be left on if desired.

pick a TIM from the top few here:

I use Innovative Cooling's Diamond 7 karat Thermal Compound

    Some accessories for ya Megahalems

No. 1 above is the TIM
No. 2 above is a pair of HS fans specifically matched in rpm to the design of the Megahalems.
No. 3 above allows your fans to be controlled by the MoBo.
