just wondering what type of processor i wold need to get the full potential out of my 4850 in games like gta4 and other cpu intensive games i dont want an i7 something cheap i was thinking a e5200 ocd to 3.8/4ghz or mabey a bit less lol!

GTA IV is one of the few games that take advantage of high clocks and quad cores. In that order, u can go with a quad-core AMD that is a good option price/performance.

i have an i7 but think that its overkill for 4850 all i want is something that will give me the same fps in gta 4 would a q6600 do it

A Phenom II and the 4850 is a very good combination for u.

Ok.

Two options:

1- Go with a intel i5-750, but u also need upgrade mobo and RAM.
2- Go with the q8400 that seems very good.

If tou have a MicroCenter near you you can pick up a Q8200 for 129.99 and I think there is even a rebate on top of that. I have a system with the Q8200 and well it is a decent budget Quad it outperforms all AMD Athlon II quads when overclocked slightly. Most enthusiast hate the chip because it wont overclock astronomically but it will hit 3 ghz with a bump in the FSB and can do it with very minimal voltage increase. Anything higher than that it simply wont do but at 3 ghz it will run your 4850 to its max and plays GTA very nicely.

I would not get this processor however if you cant overclock it.

if you can get a q6600 for like $100, go for it, other than that the q8200 is the better option
