Dual Channel and Triple Channel?

I have been looking into building a new system and I've hit a point I'm not sure about.

The EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI specifications mentions to use Triple Channel DDR3 and I'm wondering what difference does it makes from Dual Channel DDR3? (apart from the price =P )

Thank you for any help =)

  1. Welcome Newcomer! :)

    ONLY get a Tri Channel or Hexa Channel Kit(s) with that MOBO!!! Tri Channel is more efficient than Hexa Channel {Channel switching A->B->A->B->etc}

    The 'difference' for that MOBO is possibly it working! 'Some' Dual Channel kits 'can' work, but you have to be very careful and verify via Certified or Tested Dual Channel kits will work. I would NEVER recommend as a Good Practice to use Dual Kit(s) on your MOBO. The differences otherwise e.g. P55 {Dual} vs X58 {Tri} is found only in benchmarks and they are negligible.

    My recommendation - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Model TR3X6G1600C8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224&Tpk=TR3X6G1600C8D

    My 'real' expertise is in Building, OC, OS {RHEL}, PHP, Development Testing {Microsoft - Office products}, Database Development and Servers - MOBO & Memory was my weakest until I started to post.
