Hello fellow Tom's hardware"ers"

I currently have the computer listed bellow, and am about to come into some money before I go to University, so I want to upgrade so I won't need to for the next 3 years whilst I'm there.

I'm looking at: AMD PHENOM II 945 3.0GHz QUAD CORE
with this motherboard. ASROCK SKT-AM2+N68C-S S/V/L 2000MT/S Link: http://mpcomp.co.uk/mpc.php?page=product&product=2567300

Those two come in at £185, in a bundle on Ebay, I would also use this case: BLACK RAIDMAX KATANA GAMING PC TOWER CASE 500W PSU

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-RAIDMAX-KATANA-GAMING-PC-TOWER-CASE-500W-PSU-/260414510386?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Computing_DesktopComponents_RL&hash=item3ca1ea1532#ht_3943wt_996

It comes with an 500watt psu. And is £60

This comes to £250

What do you think, is it a worth while upgrade, is there any better options for my small amount of money I can spend? Thanks

The PSU is junk, and you would probably have to replace it anyways, that is the only thing i would change, but we would need to know what the rest of the system would be before recommending a different PSU

Thanks for the reply, the other stuff would be the things out of my old computer. My Radeon HD 5670, that I might crossfire in the future, there will be a PCI TV tuner card, and a DVD/Rw in it, along with a new hard drive, proberly get a 300gig SATA one. Does that help =)
Im in the UK btw the for parts thanks

unfortunately, i don't really know ny good places for people in the UK, though i can still recommend parts

for the 5670, a corsair 400CX would do, or an antec Earthwatts 380w

though if you plan on getting a better video card anytime, you might want to get a good 550w PSU, like one from Corsair, Antec (not the Basiq series), Seasonic, OCZ

So your saying that I need to consider getting a better psu, what do you think about the processor? Will it last me 3 years for gaming? and is the motherboard and processor well mached, and is the price good? Sorry about the 100 questions lol. :kaola:

Thanks man, never had an AMD processor before. Hope It's ok. How much performance increase do you think I will see from my current Core 2 Duo E6400 2.12Ghz ?

dude,

Have a look @ Scan or KustomPC - they're both great sites and the prices are pretty decent.

KustomPC have a dedicated forum as well & they are always happy to give decent advice.

depends, in threaded apps you will see a lot of performance increase, in apps that aren't you will still see some

gaming might get a slight increase in cpu heavy games since the 5670 isn't a super fast card
