Hi! My Sony Vaio laptop has stopped reading discs. They are not being detected by my computer at all. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or what is was caused by? It has not been damaged in any way, it just stopped. I would be so grateful for any help! Thank you!

Thank you so much for your speedy reply! I did try this, but it didn't seem to change the result. Would you happen to have any other suggestions? Thank you so much for your time!

Can you read the disks? Is it just autoplay not working? If it's just the autoplay not working, sorry, I have no more suggestions. If it can't read the disk at all, then you probably have a defective drive.

It probably is dead but it could still be worth trying a laser cleaning disk.

If you can't fix it, a USB external will cost a lot less than a Vaio replacement part.
