Hello, :hello:
running xp on quad core,
surfing the net is fine, watching youtube plus sound is fine,
but play a game and all sorts of pixellating and strange colourings happen and often the game will freeze or crash. If i ctrl/alt/delete i can stop the game and go on to surf net quite happily without reboot.
I cleared all dust out and replaced card, thinking that might help.
No difference,
Is the card dying? It`s not old, only just over a year in a new pc.

Possibly the issue there, your Power supply is on the weak side and it not of great quality like OCZ or Corsair Power Supplies. If it was a 400w OCZ/Seasonic/Corsair PSU, you would be ok.

You will need a minimum of a 400w power supply with at least 26 amps on the 12v rail...

If the 9800GT isn't the ECO version, I'd say you could benefit from a better pee-ess-you

well jonpaul and shadow,do you think microsoft will be a bit picky over me changing a piece of hardware....or is it when you change more than one?
I might after changing the psu still have to get a new graphics card and then I might have to buy a windows 7 os .....:(

You won't have to buy a new OS if you change anything except for the Hard Drive.

DO wear rubber gloves if you're floor is fuzzy/carpeted.
DO NOT drink pop over computer.
DO wire correctly the first time.

A new power supply should do the trick if the card doesn't artifact in another computer. So as one had already posted a 400w quality unit from such brands as Enermax or Antec will solve the problem.

The microsoft report on blue screen tells me it`s the graphics card,do I believe them or go with the psu replacement?sheesh, this is so tricky for a newbie to sort out :)

Hahaha yes make sure you wire everthing corrrectly. I lost a 500Gb hard drive by not wiring things correctly the first time. The less time you spend monking around in the computer case, the better
!
