Black monitor

I have a four year old Dell 4700 desk top with a 128MB PCI-E X16 ATI Radeon X300 SE,DIM,M video card. Monitor was working fine. I left the room and returned and the monitor was completely blank and black. Rebooted sever time and couldn't get a setup screen or an error message. Don't know whether it is monitor, driver, or video card. I don't have a vga cable to connect to my laptop so I can't test monitor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
