This will be my first pc build, and its mainly gonna be used for gaming.

CASE : Coolermaster HAF 922

MOBO : ASUS P6T SE

CPU : Intel Core i7 920

PSU : Corsair-CMPSU-750TXEU

HDD : Samsung SpinPoint F3 Desktop Class HD502HJ (Gonna get my hands on a SSD later)

RAM : OCZ Platinum Triple Channel (Hukommelse 6 GB ( 3 x 2 GB ) DIMM 240-pin DDR3 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 CL7 1.65)

CPU cooling : Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

GPU : XFX Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5

Total cost around $1800

Monitor is 1650x1050.
Should I get some extra cooler paste? or will it come with the CPU cooler.
I would like to have the opportunity to crossfire later on.

Plz leave some comments on this build.

1) Are you planning on upgrading your monitor? If not the 58XX series with the exception of the 5830 is overkill for that resolution.....

If you are not upgrading your monitor I would get a 5830 or a 5770 instead.

^+1... The 5870 is overkill at your resolution.

I would pickup some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound to go with the CM Hyper 212+.

It is not necessary to make the switch to Win7 64-bit from Vista 64-bit. You won't see a gaming improvement. I would make the switch to Win7 because it is a better OS. I have my copy it's way to make the switch from Vista. All the feedbackI received from friends is, it is worth the upgrade. Again, it is not required to have the system do what you need but is a recommendation. If cost is a factor, don't purchase Win7 to save some cash.

Think Ill stick with 5870 since its more futureproof, and getting a new monitor is something that I will consider within the next 1-2 months.

Hey there, hope nobody minds me cutting in. :)

I am thinking of either the HD5780 or HD5790 and I will be buying the Dell U2711 in a few weeks. Would it make any difference on which card.

I am thinking of getting i7 920 or 930, ASUS P6X58D Premium, Mushkin Ledline 6GB (PC 12800), etc. and be used for gaming; crisis, cod, etc.

Thank you very much for your time... and butting in. ;)

@WineByMe: For that monitor, I would get the ATI 5970 for your best gaming experience. I would go with the i7 930 and pay attention to the release of the Nvidia GTX 470 & 480 late next month. They will (should be) the new Kings of the GPU's and help drive prices down on the ATI cards.

Thank you very much tecmo34. I will wait for the 930, think hard on the 5970 (not sure yet) and keep an eye on the ATI cards. I am not in a hurry to put this together.

Thank you again and have a good day.

Since I plan on OC my CPU to 3,0, I dont think that the hyper 212 will be effecient. wouldnt I be better off with the coolermaster V8?
