Affordable Gaming Desktop 1300$

Hello,
My price range is up to $1200 maybe $1300. Looking for a desktop that will run new and upcoming games such as Mortal online, WoW, Star Wars The Old Republic smoothly at full graphic settings. Open to suggestions, thanks.

  1. Just buy a 5870 card ($400) and any dual core system. If you need a screen, that drops your budget to $1000. (buy a 24" TN screen for $200-300).

$1300 will buy you a system that will play almost anything maxed.

Or go to a pre-built PC company. There is at least 5 of them. The markup for labor is pretty easy on the wallet. Even if you need a new copy of Windows, just buy a 5870 card and you can still afford anything else you will need for a great gaming pc system.

AMD's? We dont got no AMD's, We dont need no AMD's, I DONT HAVE TO SHOW YOU ANY STINKING AMD's!!
  3. Just because it's AMD doesn't mean it's bad...geeze..
  4. just f'ing with you shadow..
  5. That combo is actually pretty nice though shadow.
  6. Here I was building a system for him, planning on getting an excellent cooler so he can take the Phenom II 965 (125W edition) to 4.1Ghz, and crossfire 2xHD5850. Then I stumble on this, and it's quite good.
  7. Bigger HDD, 5770 CF > HD5870, and mine allows for more expandability. It's cheaper so he can spend more on a good monitor. The case is one of the best as well.
  8. I've never really build my own pc before, with shadows link is that everything needed minus the monitor and maybe a wireless internet card?
  9. Too long, combo expired.
  10. Why i7? A PII965 will not be bottlenecked by an HD5970.

Most dual-cores without extreme overclocking will bottleneck a 5870.
    I would recommend a Phenom II X2/E8400/Core i3 530 overclocked to 3.8/3.6/3.4GHz if you decide on a dual-core system.
You want a quad around 3GHz too, as many games don't thread very well. I would get the Athlon II X4 630 & overclock it to 3-3.4GHz, if you have more cash then a Phenom II X4 955 C3.

If you're spending 1200 DO NOT waste it on an X4 system. Go I7

    Core i7's are quad-core, smart-ass.
  13. We need to know more about what you are looking for exactly.
Does that budget need to include a monitor or do you already have one? If so what is the resolution? Do you need/want a new copy of windows? What kind of hard drive space do you want? Some people are fine with 500gb, others will want multiple 1tb+ drives. Do you have any parts from an old computer you can/want to recycle?
  14. He needs a monitor, and jyjjy, the difference between a 500GB HDD ant a 1TB is less than $30, which is negligible at $1300.

    As to your OS question..

  15. I said 500gb vs multiple 1tb+ which isn't negligible.
Some people may be ok with pirating, others not, hence the question.
  16. Pirating? Wot? I just posted Jack Sparrow because he is always resourceful, and will have the answers to your questions.
  17. We all know Jack would never give his money to microsoft.
  18. I'm sure that using a pirated OS for 3 months until he gets a hold on 100$ will NOT hurt microsoft, you guys or himself. That is if that 100$ will get him THAT much for games like Mortal online, WoW, Star Wars The Old Republic !!!
So the 5850 is a nice option but if money is tight a 5770 will do
  19. I'm not going to look up the build, I'm just going to type it out. Prices may vary.

    PII965: $180
    Crossfire MOBO: $120
    750W PSU: $75
    1TB HDD: $85
    2x HD5850: $600
    Antec 900: $100
    ---$1060---
    Win7HomePremium: $100
    4GB DDR3 1600: $100
    Disk drive: $30
    ---$1290---
Am I missing something? I feel like I am..
  20. ur missing a screen
