im builing a system for my uncle to replace his dead e machine

it need to be able to go on the internet
that is it

AMD is preferred and a super video card is not needed

he makes his own electricity so it needs to be low powered

we have the OS, Monitor, keyboard, dvd drive, mouse.

what i need is

cpu
board
memory (hes used to xp with 512mb so 1GB is sufficient)
hard drive (his current computer is using 9gb of 160gb and its 3 years old, space is not a necessity)
case (smaller the better)
psu (lower the power the better, just enough to power the system)

and about the OS, i planned on using the oem XP disc that came with his e machine but i want to know what would happen if Microsoft found out.. would they just deactivate it or what?

new egg is the preferred site for parts

thanks

If Microsoft found out you were using an OEM copy of XP, they would make it non genuine and they would change the background to black and tell you that you need to purchase a new license.

Here's the difference between Retail and OEM:

OEM can only be installed on THAT specific computer that it came with. Retail copies can be reinstalled on as many computers as you want.

how can they find out is my question, the old computer will be scrapped so its still going to be just one install of xp under one license.

and to the other guy, thanks for the recommendations.
