Power Supply Upgrade - Recommendations

About to upgrade my GPU to a 5870. Seeing as how I have my CPU constantly OC'd, sucking up a lot more watts (saw one link showing a OC'd CPU can suck 150+watts more than normal), I'm thinking I'm going to have to upgrade my 600w PSU.

Anyone seen any great deals online anywhere recently, for a quality PSU?

CPU: Phenom II 955 BE 3.2 (OC'd @ 3.8) x4
MoBo: MSI 790FD-GD70 (BIOS v1.0a)
GPU: HIS ATI 4870 turbo iceq4
RAM: OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB DDR3 1600
HD: OCZ Vertex Turbo 60g SSD, Raptor 140g
PSU: Power Cooler Silent Pro M600 (RS-600-AMBA-D3)
OS: win7 32-bit

  1. Well, your PSU is fine for one HD 5870 - if you want two, I suggest a 750W PSU.

    No. More like 20 - 25% more.

Example: based on actual measurements with lab calibrated military test equipment, the current drain of my Q6600, OC'd to 3.6 GHz, went from 8 amps to 9.5 amps. Power consumption increased a little less than 20 watts.
  3. +1 what jsc said! You should be okay for a system with one ATI radeon HD 5870 video card.

Here are the official power requirements for the ATI Radeon HD 5850 and HD 5870 video cards.

    ATI Radeon™ HD5850 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors.

600 Watt or greater power supply with four 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.
